In 2012 Monique Gilbert (Belgium) set up a project with her Crossroads students. She asked them to choose an abstract painting made between 1951-1961 by Belgian painter Paul Van Hoeydonck (1925).  Students needed to interpret – not copy – his work into a textile. They could use a detail, colour or a shape to make it their own design. All techniques were allowed.
The Art Quilt must measure 80 cm x 80 cm even if the original work has a different size.  The making of the Quilts were discussed during Monique’s workshops.
The collection received support from Viking Sewing Machines for exhibiting the Art Quilts at the European Patchwork Meeting in September 2013.
